Broadway theaters in New York will remain closed through May 30, 2021. That reports the Broadway League, the umbrella organization of Broadway theaters, Friday.
Previously, there was talk of a reopening on January 3, 2021.
“With nearly 97,000 employees and a $ 14.8 billion annual economic impact on the city, our members are determined to reopen as soon as conditions permit,” said Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League.
Theatergoers who have tickets for dates through May 30, 2021, should contact their retailer for details on exchanges and refunds.
The 41 theaters on Broadway closed on March 13 as a result of the corona pandemic. At the time, 31 musicals and plays were on Broadway. Also Tina, a musical about Tina Turner made by Stage Entertainment, the company of Joop van den Ende, could no longer be performed. Three shows, including the Disney musical Frozen, have been permanently deleted due to all uncertainties surrounding the corona virus.
It has never happened before that the New York stages have remained closed for so long.
