In the most famous theater district in the world, the lights will be off this year because of the corona virus: All performances on New York’s Broadway were canceled on Monday for the rest of the year.
Tickets already purchased by January 2nd would be refunded or exchanged, the industry association “The Broadway League” announced. Because of the pandemic, all performances were canceled from March 12th.
Broadway with its around 40 plays and musicals is one of the most important tourist attractions in the metropolis. In 2019, 14.7 million tickets were sold for a total of just under $ 1.8 billion. This corresponds to roughly one and a half times the ticket sales in all German cinemas.
The famous Carnegie Hall concert hall had previously announced that there would be no performances until the beginning of January 2021.
