Brooklyn District 51 Assemblywoman Marcela Mitaynes shared her impressions of the event: “I am very proud to have this particular presentation. As immigrants, our race and culture is very important. We have roots in this community that is largely immigrant and have an opportunity to share our stories through art, drama and music.
¡AMERICANO! addresses the story of Tony Valdovinos, an immigrant who, when trying to enlist in the Navy, discovers that he is not a citizen, but through DACA he manages to get ahead to support his family and his community.

“The Ladies of Sunset Park have just been recognized for the work they do and, to be honest, it’s been many years since we’ve established ourselves here and shaped our roots. And this fills me with great emotion: knowing that among the Latino immigrant community can support each other,” explained Daniela Contreras, a member of the Ladies of Sunset Park.
