Three years ago, Rooney learned that Vardy must have leaked three private Instagram messages of hers to The Sun, the UK’s gossip newspaper.
Rooney had learned this by trapping Vardy: she blocked everyone who followed her privately on Instagram, except for Vardy’s account.
Then Rooney made up a number of “stimulating” stories and kept an eye on whether they were also picked up by The Sun. Whatever happened.
Deeming this sufficient evidence, Rooney then put Vardy on a virtual pillory: on social media, Rooney accused Vardy of existing to leak stories from her private life to the tabloid press.
Vardy did not let this allegation pass her side and is going to court. After a lengthy legal process, it finally came to a trial at the Supreme Court in London in May this year.
