Britons want to ease border controls for fear of foo …

The UK government plans to ease border controls on food, among other things, fearing that they will further harm trade and lead to serious food shortages in supermarkets.

The British newspaper The Observer has learned this from several sources. The new Brexit minister, under Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Lord Frost, is considering allowing “lighter” controls on imports from April 1.

He also plans to reduce all customs controls, including physical controls, on July 1.

Frost wants to submit his plan at all costs, now that it has turned out that Brexit has hit trade with the EU badly. That would mean that imports are allowed even if administrative errors are made by European companies.

After all, a major concern is that delays due to controls can cause food shortages.

A source in Downing Street previously confirmed that Frost had ordered “to review the timetable to ensure that we do not impose an unnecessary burden on industry,” adding that it was “too early and no decisions have been made” .
