Britney Spears tells herself. The American pop singer, freed from the controversial tutelage exercised by her father, will publish her autobiography in the fall, her publisher announced on Tuesday July 11. Entitled The Woman In Me (“The Woman in Me”) and presented as an “incredibly moving story of freedom, glory, motherhood, survival, faith and hope”, the book is due in bookstores in the United States on October 24 , said the American publishing giant Simon & Schuster without specifying whether translations were planned in other languages.

The pop star, revealed in her adolescence by the hit “Baby One More Time” then confirmed by the successes of “Oops!… I Did It Again” and “Toxic”, had been placed under legal guardianship in 2008, after having demonstrated psychological disorders.

“Candor and humor”

Almost fourteen years later, and at the end of a publicized legal saga, a court in Los Angeles lifted this guardianship in November 2021, deemed “abusive” by the singer, to allow her to regain control of her personal life.

The artist judges in particular that her father Jamie Spears had “punished” her during these years of guardianship by preventing her from “being able to see anyone or say anything”.

Written with “candor and humour”, the Memoirs of Britney Spears testify to the importance “for women to finally tell their stories, in their own terms”, argued its publisher on Tuesday. “Are you ready,” added the singer on her Instagram account followed by more than 42 million subscribers.
