During her guardianship, Britney Spears reveals that she asked for help during her forced admission to a psychiatric hospital.

Placed under administrative supervision for years, Britney Spears was released on September 29, 2021, after years of fierce struggle to regain her freedom. Her father and guardian, Jamie Spears, was accused of abusing the singer and her sanity to control her career, personal life and bank account. Since her freedom, Britney Spears has been determined to denounce those who have abused her for years.

In April 2019, a former member of the singer’s legal team revealed that Britney Spears had been locked up in a psychiatric institution for four months, at the request of her father and against her will. The reason ? She refused to take her treatment for her bipolar disorder. This July 24, 2022, Britney Spears shared screenshots of old messages dating from this period. The artist wishes to prove that she had indeed asked for help in the face of the abuses she suffered under guardianship, without response: “It’s a little different when you have proof,” she writes. The conversations revealed by the singer testify to her loneliness in this affair. Britney Spears deletes them less than an hour after they were posted.

“I feel like he is trying to kill me”

« Il [le médecin] wants to increase the dose of Seraquil. I thought it was to help me sleep, but it’s for bipolar disorder,” she wrote to her mother, Lynne Spears. “I feel all the bad medicine in my stomach. I feel like he’s trying to kill me. The singer then contacts her friend, Jansen Fitzgerald: “Is it really healthy [ce traitement] ? I feel like you’re gonna say I’m gonna be fine but I feel like that doesn’t make sense. »

Finally, the last screenshot reveals a long message sent to her lawyer at the time, Sam Ingham, employee of Britney Spears’ father, who often discouraged the singer and her desire to denounce the abuse she suffered. “I want to talk to you about going to court when this is all over.” I want my boyfriend to be able to see my children. When this treatment is finished, I no longer want to work. I want to live, for me, a life of adventures. I want Benson [son psychiatre de l’époque] let me drive again and I want to do three trips this year. »

Alone against the world

In the description of the Instagram post, Britney Spears goes further in her denunciations. His mother would never have answered him. Jansen Fitzgerald, her childhood friend, too. She was supposed to help him “find a new lawyer”. “She never answered me,” she wrote. Finally, she mentions Sam Ingham as “the lawyer she did not choose”. Britney Spears then writes that her sister had advised her to stop fighting since “they won’t [la] let it out anyway”. The singer ends her publication with: “I had no one…”

Dreaming of freedom, Britney Spears makes her first request for an end to guardianship on August 17, 2020. After numerous refusals and a pop-culture movement, the #FreeBritney, the interpreter of “Baby One More Time” is free more than one year later. She married Sam Asghari on June 9, 2022, in an intimate ceremony where Paris Hilton, Madonna, Donatella Versace and other celebrity friends of the singer made an appearance.
