Britney Spears out of receivership after thirteen years, ‘best day ever’

In June, Spears addressed the court via video link about her situation. She said she was forced to work and take medication for a long time, and called herself a slave to those around her. “I can’t decide for myself who I have contact with. I can’t see friends who live nearby. Everyone around me says ‘no’ and exploits me.”

The singer also said in the testimony that she actually wants to get married and have a third child, but that she has an IUD and is not allowed to remove it. “I was told that within the conservatorship I am not allowed to marry or have a child.”

Spears is now engaged to 27-year-old model Sam Asghari, with whom she has been together for five years. On his Instagram account she posed today in a Free Britney-T-shirt.

Victory

Shortly after Spears’ testimony in June, the court ruled that the singer can choose her own lawyer. A second win came in August, when Jamie Spears complied with his daughter’s request and the ensuing Free Britney-movement to step down as administrator.

A month later, the singer’s father informed the court that he no longer supported the supervision order. He wrote that there had been recent developments that raised the question of whether the need for a curatorship still exists. On September 30, he was suspended by the judge as a trustee. Since then, an accountant has been responsible for the supervision order.

Spears has indicated that he wants to take legal action against her father, because, according to her, he has abused his position as bankruptcy trustee.
