Britney Spears thinks it is “finally time” to speak out and share her life story. “My fans deserve to hear directly from me how it all went,” says the 41-year-old singer in conversation with People.
“No more conspiracy theories and no more lies. I’m about my own past, present and future,” Spears says in the interview about her book The Woman in Mewhich will be released on October 24.
The American singer says she finds it difficult to talk about her past and the “dark moments”. Spears mentions “her freedom that was taken away from her by her family” and “losing the passion for the things she loves”. She also had a hard time with “strangers judging her”.
But the most pain was caused to her by her own father. For example, he allegedly repeatedly told his daughter that she was “fat and had to do something about it”. “Feeling like you are never enough is the worst thing you can feel as a child.”
A mental breakdown of the Toxicsinger ensured that she came under her father’s guardianship in 2008. That supervision came to an end in November 2021. “The guardianship turned me into a child and oppressed me for a long time. After the guardianship ended, I was finally free to tell my story without repercussions,” Spears said.
Dealing with new freedom can sometimes be a challenge
The singer does admit that dealing with her “new freedom” can sometimes be challenging. She currently enjoys playing with her dogs and traveling. “Or from watching episodes of the TV series Friends. I’m a simple girl.”
When asked what the singer is most proud of, she answers that it was becoming a mother to her sons Sean Preston (18) and Jayden James (17). Spears had her children with her ex-husband Kevin Federline. “Becoming a mother was truly a dream come true.”
Spears put her story on paper with the help of a ghostwriter. Sources around the artist previously reported that the book contains significant revelations and that the singer is not withholding any information. She reportedly receives at least 15 million dollars (more than 13 million euros) for her book. That is the highest amount ever paid for an autobiography.
