Britney Spears’ lawyer proposes that her guardianship end before the end of the year

LOS ANGELES, Sept 22 (Reuters) – A lawyer for Britney Spears asked a Los Angeles court on Wednesday to end the 13-year guardianship that oversees the artist’s personal life and finances before the end of the year.

In a filing filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, attorney Mathew Rosengart asked that the singer’s father, Jamie Spears, lose guardianship by Sept. 29 and that a temporary replacement be named to seal the deal. “Ms. Spears will seek the appointment of a short-term temporary guardian to replace Mr. Spears until the conservatorship ends totally and inevitably this fall,” the presentation reads.

Jamie Spears established the court-approved settlement in 2008 that governs the singer’s personal affairs and approximately $ 60 million.

The “Stronger” interpreter told a court in June that her father was a controller and that she wanted out of his guardianship, but a timeline had not been requested. The next public hearing in the case is scheduled for September 29.

In a surprise move, Jamie Spears said in court earlier this month that he supported ending the custody, saying circumstances had changed.

Netflix Inc plans to release a new documentary on the case next Tuesday, the day before the next court hearing.
