British village overrun with 1000 Travelers: ‘Nobody knew this’ | Abroad

The village is on its back legs, because the ‘guests’ would be guilty of insults and would go to places where they have no business. Festival organizer Kevin Burnside is not aware of any harm. “We are a biblical organization that seeks to build bridges between traveler communities and the local community. Everyone is welcome at the festival site.”

City councilor Lynn Gibson should not expect him there, according to her comment to the BBC. She is particularly surprised that no one saw this coming: “Nobody knew this. Not the community, not the city council, not the police.”

The owner of the festival site Andrew Bloor knew and claims that the announcement was also on a local website. He does not see the problem this way: “Most of the time they are praying and holding services. There is some singing, but there is no alcohol or drugs.” One resident comments: “I have never seen churchgoers behave like these people.” Bloor: “Unfortunately, some less valued elements have also been added. You have that everywhere.”

The end of the nuisance is in sight. The festival ends this weekend.
