Kandice Barber, a 35-year-old British teacher, was found guilty of raping her student, a minor under 15. According to a BBC report published on Thursday, January 28, she had been harassing the victim through Snapchat.
The events date back to 2018 in the county of Buckinghamshire (England, United Kingdom), where Barber met the student at a sporting event and asked for his phone number in order to save his Snapchat username.
Precisely one of the photos sent by the teacher ended up giving her away. The image quickly spread to Princes Risborough School, all the way to the eyes of the director, who fired her and filed a complaint against her. By then, Kandice Barber had already sexually abused the minor according to the Prosecutor’s Office. She was arrested on March 12, 2019.
Barber – married with children of school age – was unrepentant as the verdict was read to her, after the jury took 10 hours and 39 minutes of deliberation. The only reason she was allowed to go home and the judge did not pass judgment was because her lawyer, Nadia Chbatt, was not present due to another engagement.
The teacher was released on bail and will appear again in Aylesbury Crown Court this week. The judge specified that if she does not appear before the court of her own free will she would be taken by force by the police. In that sense, it was known that he could face a sentence of up to five years in prison.
This is the second trial of Kandice Barber, who had already been prosecuted for sending photos and convicted of causing a minor to see a sexual act “while he was in a position of trust and power relationship.”
