Elton John Misses ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Premiere Due to Eye Injury
Legendary musician Elton John was sadly forced to miss the opening nights of his new musical, The Devil Wears Prada, due to an eye injury sustained over the summer.
The 77-year-old icon revealed the reason for his absence during a charity performance in London on Sunday, stating, "“I couldn’t attend a lot of the previews, you know, because I lost my sight.”
John, who made the difficult decision to retire from touring this year following a monumental farewell tour in 2022 and 2023, admitted, “So it’s hard for me to see, but I love to hear it. What a great performance tonight."
The "Rocket Man" singer first shared details about his injury on Instagram last September, explaining that the incident had left him with “limited vision in one eye … it will be a while before vision returns in the eye."
In an interview with ABC News last month, he elaborated that the injury resulted in the complete loss of sight in his right eye and that his left eye "is not in the best condition."
The stage adaptation of the popular 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada stars American singer Vanessa Williams as the formidable fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly.
Williams expressed her excitement for the role during a media appearance last week, saying, "I said I wanted to be a part of it because I can shape the role, which means you have influence over the script, the music, the dancing, all the details.”
Sunday’s opening night drew a glittering crowd, including fashion luminaries like Anna Wintour and Donatella Versace.
