ANYWHERE – Two British Royal Navy minesweepers collided while anchored in Bahrain. One ship was recorded on video as it reversed until it hit another ship that was leaning.

A British military spokesperson has confirmed the ridiculous and embarrassing accident. He said the cause of the apparently senseless incident was still under investigation.

The accident occurred on Thursday (18/1/2024) when HMS Chiddingfold, a Hunt-class mine countermeasures ship, attempted to anchor at an undisclosed location in the Gulf country.

As captured in a clip circulating online, the Chiddingfold can be seen hitting the bow of the Sandown-class minehunter HMS Bangor, causing a loud clatter.

An unnamed military source quoted by the British Defense Journal said teams would be sent to assess the damage and make repair plans.

A Royal Navy spokesperson also addressed the accident in a statement issued on Friday.

“We are aware of an incident involving two Mine Hunters in Bahrain. “There were no casualties as a result of this incident and it would be inappropriate to comment further while the investigation is ongoing,” the spokesperson said.

The aftermath of the incident was recorded in another image which shows a fairly large hole in Bangor’s hull.

Designed to search for and destroy sea mines, HMS Chiddingfold is constructed from glass-reinforced plastic and other non-ferrous materials to reduce its magnetic properties.
