Alan Rumsby, a 75-year-old British carpenter who has spent more than a decade exploring local fields with a metal detector, finally discovered, in October 2020, a gold ring dating back to the 17th century.
The ring was found in the county of Norfolk and is believed to have belonged to Dorothy Ashfield, born in 1594. For experts, it is extremely rare to find a signet ring from the period worn by a woman, indicates the local Express portal.
The British Museum expressed interest in acquiring the piece, but two years later, it rejected it, so Rumsby can now sell it.
The antique jewelry, estimated to fetch between $17,500 and $20,200, will go up for sale on March 12 at Noonans Mayfair, an auction of jewelry, watches, silver and other valuables.
