The name of the album “UGLY” is an acronym that the musician translates as “U Gotta Love Yourself” (“U Gotta Love Yourself”), and at the same time creates a play on words – “ugly” means “ugly” in English. The album, which will be the third solo record in the musician’s discography, will be released on March 3 under the auspices of the “Method Records” publishing house.

The single “Selfish” tells about the musician’s dilemmas, selfishness and lack of time. “I want to be with my loved ones, but I’m always busy, working, trying to achieve more,” says slowthai. Reflections on various human relationships – both with fellow human beings and society in general – were also heard in the musician’s previous albums “Nothing Great About Britain” (2019) and “Tyron” (2021).

On the morning of January 25th, to draw attention to the release of the single and its themes, slowthai began a live video broadcast from a purpose-built room made entirely of mirrors. The musician will spend a whole day in solitude, which every viewer can watch live.

slowthai is one of the most original and well-known British musicians of today, who has never shied away from experimenting with various elements of hip-hop, grime and punk, as well as deliberately creating a specific sound that has been appreciated by both music critics and a wide range of listeners. His first album “Nothing Great About Britain” was nominated for the prestigious “Mercury Prize” award, but the content of his songs and his behavior on stage often cause mixed reactions from the audience mainly due to slowthai’s sharp statements about various political processes.
