“British Queen Elizabeth’s State Funeral and Related Events: UK government spends £161.7 million”

The British government has spent a total of 161.7 million pounds (converted over 186 million euros) on the state funeral of the British Queen Elizabeth and related events. That made the British Treasury announced on Thursday.

The funeral on September 19 last year was preceded by a period of national mourning.

Subjects could, among other things, say goodbye to the queen in Westminster Hall in London, where her coffin stood for a while. Before that, the Queen lay in state for 24 hours in St. Gilis Cathedral in the Scottish capital Edinburgh.

Elizabeth passed away on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96. Her funeral was the first state funeral since the death of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Prince Philip, Elizabeth’s husband who passed away in 2021, was not given a state funeral.

The period of mourning, the funeral and everything surrounding the death of the queen was broadcast live by the BBC. 29 million Britons watched the funeral on television.
