British Police Reopen Partygate Scandal Investigation, Evidence Found at Conservative Party Headquarters and Parliament – December 2020 Events

British police have received new evidence about the ‘partygate’ scandal, which involves parties held by government employees during the 2020 and 2021 corona lockdowns.

London police are reopening an investigation into a party at Conservative Party headquarters and opening a new investigation into a meeting of the same party in Parliament.

It concerns events on December 8 and 14, 2020. On the latter date, the Conservatives, according to Sky News at their office a party of which video recordings surfaced last month. The images show members of the ruling party dancing and drinking without keeping their distance. 24 people were present, much more than was allowed at the time.

The police have already fined politicians for violating the corona rules. For example, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have been fined for celebrating Johnson’s birthday with too many people.

Police also said on Tuesday that other evidence was being looked at about possible breaches of the rules at the Prime Minister’s official residence at 10 Downing Street and at the Checkers estate. Johnson’s diaries, for example, have been examined for this purpose, but they have not given rise to a new investigation.
