British police on alert for possible new riots – Diario La Página – 2024-08-08 17:04:02

UK police are on alert this Wednesday (7.08.2024) after reports circulated on the internet that far-right groups are planning to hold demonstrations outside 30 immigration centres today.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer warned on Tuesday that law enforcement will take “all necessary measures” to control a new wave of riots started by these groups on July 30 in the town of Southport, in the northwest of England.

According to the authorities, more than 6,000 riot police are preparing to act tonight if necessary.

Extremists are planning protests in front of 30 immigrant support centres
Anti-immigration and anti-Islam extremists, who mobilise via social media, will protest outside some thirty legal centres specialising in providing support to asylum seekers.

The Financial Times revealed today that they also have plans to attack pro-immigrant law firms.

The Prime Minister held a second emergency Cobra meeting with ministers and police chiefs last night and pledged to do whatever it takes to end the violence.

“The Cobra meeting was about coordinating our response to the disorder and I made it very clear that those involved will feel the full weight of the law,” Starmer said after the meeting.

The protests began after three girls were stabbed to death at a summer recreation centre in Southport on 29 July, leaving eight other children and two adults injured.

The suspect, 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana, was born in Wales to Rwandan parents, but far-right groups have reacted after incorrect information circulated on social media that he was an asylum seeker.
