British PM suddenly arrives in Kyiv, surprises many

KYIV,KOMPAS.com – Prime Minister (PM) Boris Johnson directly visited Kyiv to meet the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

Johnson’s visit to Kyiv was confirmed by Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office Andriy Sybiha.

“Right now Boris Johnson’s visit to Kyiv began with a one-on-one meeting with President Zelensky,” Sybiha said on Facebook.

Johnson’s visit to Kyiv was also confirmed by the UK Prime Minister’s Office in Downin Street, as reported by Sky NewsSaturday (9/4/2022).

A spokesman for the UK Prime Minister’s Office said Johnson made the visit to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

“They will discuss the UK’s long-term support to Ukraine and the PM will set out a new package of financial and military assistance,” the spokesman added.

Johnson’s visit to Kyiv came as a surprise to many because it was not announced beforehand.

He came to Kyiv after Britain promised to send armored vehicles to Ukraine for the first time as part of a new £100 million package.

The visit also comes a day after at least 50 people were killed in an attack on civilians at the Kramatorsk train station in eastern Ukraine.

Zelensky said the attack on the train station was a war crime.
