The British Olympic Association is investigating rugby player Amy Wilson-Hardy. The reason is a possible racist comment on WhatsApp.

Paris – Excitement in the British Olympic scene! On Monday evening (29 July) a chat history surfaced in which rugby player Amy Wilson-Hardy is said to have made racist comments. The British Olympic Association (BOA) has now launched an investigation.

In a WhatsApp chat, the 34-year-old apparently sent a photo of herself wearing a black face mask – as can be seen from a leaked screenshot on Instagram. The unknown person replied: “Real chocolate face,” to which Wilson-Hardy apparently wrote: “I thought I’d have a better chance with the black ones.”

The authenticity of the screenshot remains unclear. Both the image and the account on which it was posted are no longer available. At the request of the DailyMail The BOA declined to comment but said it would investigate the incident.

After suspicion of racism at the Olympics: Wilson-Hardy removed from rugby squad

On Monday evening, Amy Wilson-Hardy was still in the starting eleven in the match against the USA, which England lost 7:17. On Tuesday (30 July), the British women’s rugby team played their duel against China, but Wilson-Hardy was no longer part of the squad.

A spokesman for the BOA told Sky: “The British Olympic Association has confirmed that Amy Wilson-Hardy has been withdrawn from the Rugby Sevens placement matches at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games for medical reasons.”

Basketball star Dennis Schröder recently made it clear how much racism is still a problem in elite sport. Schröder did not take his choice as Olympic flag bearer for granted, especially in view of his skin colour. (that)
