British Norris (McLaren) wins Miami GP; Checo Pérez finishes fifth

Mexico City. Lando Norris tasted victory in Formula One for the first time. Six years after his debut, the Briton achieved glory at the Miami Grand Prix, with fate playing in his favor to beat Max Verstappen (Red Bull ), three-time world champion.

Verstappen was stunned, accustomed to leaving his rivals prone.

This time, the Dutchman could not overcome the McLaren driver’s thirst for victory, who took advantage of a safety car in the middle of the race at the Miami International Raceway to gain seven seconds of advantage over the Dutchman at the finish line.

Norris’s screams and his raised fist were the reflection of a competitor who waited six seasons and 15 podiums to achieve the success that Verstappen has monopolized in recent years.

“We did it,” Norris said at the end of the competition.

The podium was completed by Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari). The Mexican Sergio Checo Pérez, for his part, failed to enter the positions of honor for the second year. After finishing second in the previous edition, the man from Guadalajara finished fifth in a circuit that was complicated for the tricolor, who started fourth in the starting order.

After this result, the Red Bulls maintained the first places: Max maintained the top with 136 points and Checo is the runner-up with 101. Leclerc, however, is three units behind the Mexican.
