Jakarta –
Court English sentenced a British man to life in prison. He was found guilty of traveling to Syria to join a terrorist group ISIS.
As reported by AFP, Saturday (27/5/2023), Judge Mark Lucraft sentenced Shabazz Suleman to prison, from High Wycombe northwest of London. He was convicted for traveling to Syria to register as a terrorist group, which is illegal under British law.
“You went to Syria to join ISIS. You understand that ISIS is a prohibited organization under British law,” the judge said in sentencing at London’s Old Bailey criminal court.
“Your ambition is to become a sniper,” he continued.
The 27-year-old Suleman pleaded guilty to preparing an act of terrorism by traveling from England to Turkey in August 2014. He was just 18 when he decided to join the ISIS in Syria.
He disappeared while on a family vacation to Turkey, which borders Syria and has long been the gateway to the war-torn country for Western jihadists. Suleman was arrested at Heathrow Airport in September 2021 and charged with various terror offences, including receiving training in the use of firearms and being a member of a banned organization.
Suleman is now found guilty. He will serve a minimum sentence of nine years and six months under a life sentence.
