Russia protects the rich part of the population and those who live in the big cities, so that they do not have to participate in the war in Ukraine, according to British intelligence.
– While Russia continues to suffer extremely large losses, there are dramatic differences between the Russian regions in terms of how the war affects the population, according to the Ministry of Defense in London.
The ministry estimates that in some regions there are 30 times more people dying as a result of the war than in Moscow.
It is ethnic minorities who have had to endure the greatest losses. In the region of Astrakhan, for example, 75 percent of those killed are ethnic Kazakhs and Tatars, it is estimated.
The American Institute of the Study of War writes on Sunday that the Russian offensive in Bakhmut in the east of the country appears to have stopped. On Saturday it was reported that Russian forces control the eastern part of the city.
Hundreds of soldiers are said to have been killed in recent days on both the Russian and Ukrainian sides of the front line.
