British Home Secretary James Cleverley said to be ending “unreasonable practice” foreign students to lead their families in Britain, as restrictions on the issuance of visas come into force from today, DPA reported.
According to him, the ban that affects all international students, except those enrolling in postgraduate research programs and students on government scholarships, will stop tens of thousands of migrants.
The measure in question was announced in May by the previous Minister of the Interior, Suella Braverman, shortly before it became clear that, according to official data, the number of migrants from January to June was amounted to 672,000.
This move by the British government may affect universities, which rely on fees from foreign cold and could also damage the country’s reputation as an international destination, experts warn.
Last month, Cleverley introduced a number of new restrictions, which he believes will reduce the number of migrants with 300,000 people a year. One of the measures is that Britons earning less than £38,700 a year will not be able to get a family visa.
