British government wants migrants on old ferries or distant islands …

The UK government plans to use decommissioned ferries as accommodation centers for asylum seekers. Migrants could be housed there until their asylum status is cleared, the newspaper cites The Times.

This is one of the most likely options the UK government is discussing. The Ministry of the Interior initially declined to comment on the plans.

The government wants to discourage migrants from coming to the UK and is discussing deterrence measures. In recent months, thousands of migrants from France often came in rickety boats across the Channel to Great Britain.

London has announced several times that it wants to take action against this. Home Secretary Priti Patel even talked about the use of warships. Aid organizations, on the other hand, advocate safe and legal routes for the arrival of migrants.

The Times, as well as other British media, now speak of disused oil platforms or distant South Atlantic islands as possible refugee reception centers. According to a recent poll by the YouGov polling station, 40 percent of Britons can be found housing asylum seekers thousands of miles away on the Atlantic island of Ascension. Labor MP Nick Thomas-Symonds on Twitter criticized the “ inhumane culture ” created by the Home Office.
