“British Gas Offers Half-Priced Electricity Bill for Off-Peak Energy Use”

Turn off washing machines, dishwashers and other energy-intensive appliances, and we’ll charge you only half the electricity bill. That’s what the action offered by the British energy company British Gas to its customers could be called. They will be able to save if they use energy-intensive appliances off-peak on Sundays.

Every customer of the company who on Sunday, April 30 between 11:00 and 16:00 he will not run energy-intensive appliances and at the same time he is a member of the PeakSave program he will have electricity from the supplier o half cheaper. With this, the company wants to continue further testing of the program, which was already tested in the UK in the winter by the transmission system operator ESO.

The goal that the energy company wants to achieve is simple, namely to teach customers to use energy-intensive appliances primarily outside the energy peak. It is precisely at this time that it is otherwise very often necessary to produce a large amount of energy from quickly available sources, such as, for example coal power plants. In the event of a large demand for energy at the peak, its price is thus significantly higher, and at the same time, the energy network is exploited, which has considerable difficulties with the enormous load.

British Gas promises that all customers who take part in the promotion will receive the savings in their account within seven days, reducing their bill. The company is now contacting customers who will be able to take advantage of the event by e-mail, as it is necessary to sign up for the program in advance.

In the future, energy companies in other countries will probably start using similar programs not only because of higher consumption, but also because of its effective management. This is because energy-intensive electric cars, as well as renewable sources, the production of which can very often be difficult to predict, will increasingly be connected to energy networks.

There’s no doubt that programs like PeakSave will grow in importance in the energy world, and not just because effective consumption management, but also due to the support of sustainable energy sources. These programs can lead to a more sustainable use of energy, reduced dependence on non-green sources and minimized burden on energy networks.
