According to anonymous interlocutors of Bloomberg, it was the disappearance of Qin Gang that was the main reason for the cancellation of Cleverly’s visit. And one of the sources added that this was one of several factors.
Both countries are considering alternative dates for Cleverly’s visit, sources say.
Bloomberg recalls that Qin Gang disappeared from public space on June 25, the day he met with officials from Russia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
Since then, Wang Yi, head of the office of the foreign affairs commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, has replaced the minister at diplomatic meetings.
