British Foreign Secretary David Cameron announces travel ban for Israeli settlers involved in violence against Palestinians

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said on Thursday that he had decided to prevent those responsible for acts of violence committed by settlers against Palestinians from entering Britain, after talk of a similar decision by the European Union.

Statistics from the United Nations indicate that daily attacks carried out by settlers in the Israeli-occupied West Bank have more than doubled since the attack launched by the Palestinian Hamas movement on October 7 on Israel from Gaza.

Cameron stated on the X platform: “By targeting and killing Palestinian civilians, extremist settlers undermine the security and stability of both Israelis and Palestinians.”

He continued: “Israel must take stronger measures to stop settler violence and hold perpetrators accountable. We will prevent those responsible for settler violence from entering the United Kingdom to ensure that our country cannot be a home for people who commit these acts of terror.”

British Minister of State Andrew Mitchell told Parliament on Monday that Cameron discussed the issue of the travel ban with his American counterpart last week.

While much international attention has focused on the cross-border attack and Israel’s subsequent war against Hamas in Gaza, European officials are expressing growing concern about growing violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.

Earlier this week, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said he would propose sanctions on Jewish settlers responsible for violence against Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Borrell did not say what the sanctions would entail, but European Union officials say they will include a travel ban to the European Union.
