LONDON – British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss joins the race to become the next prime minister (PM).

He outlined his vision for Britain and the Conservative Party in an article published in the Daily Telegraph on Sunday (10/7/2022).

“We are facing big challenges at home in the midst of the global economic crisis. We face great challenges abroad, from an aggressive Russia to an increasingly assertive China,” he wrote.

He vowed to rule as a Conservative if he is elected to the top office in the country.

Truss said he would be a prime minister who “can lead, deliver and make tough decisions,” while touting his experience as a Brexit negotiator, trade and foreign minister, which helped impose sanctions on Russia for its military offensive in Ukraine.

“As foreign minister, I have helped lead the international response to Putin’s war in Ukraine and delivered the tough sanctions package that has led the world, by imposing real pain on Putin and the Kremlin,” he said.

Truss also pledged to start cutting taxes to help Britain contain the soaring cost of living due to the crisis and attract investment.

At the same time, he intends to make private companies grow faster than the public sector and, in the long term, to reduce the size of the state.
