Details: Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, direct British exports to the Russian Federation have fallen by 74%. Russia still imports food, medicine and other humanitarian goods from Britain, but does not import heavy machinery, electrical equipment or cars at all.
But analysis shows that large volumes of British dual-use goods still find their way to Moscow through its neighboring states.
Over the same period, British exports to Kyrgyzstan grew by more than 1,100%, dominated by heavy machinery and vehicles. Overall, British exports to Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Uzbekistan and Georgia have increased by more than 500% since the start of the war.
The largest category of goods sent to the four countries from Britain was “parts of aircraft, helicopters or unmanned aerial vehicles” – dual-use equipment – worth six million pounds.
Other goods sent by UK exporters include data processing machines, aeronautical equipment and radio navigation aids.
The British government, commenting on the Sky News analysis, said that it is constantly trying to tighten the sanctions regime against Russia, and non-compliance “is a serious offense and is punishable by large financial fines or criminal prosecution.”
This is not the first evidence of the existence of such an export. It was previously reported that over 10 months of last year, British companies exported critical components to Russia, in particular semiconductors and drones. worth more than $100 million.
Last year UK announced the creation a special unit to strengthen the fight against companies that evade sanctions against Russia.
