British long-distance swimmer and environmentalist Lewis Pugh embarked on a day-long journey to the United Nations headquarters in New York on Sunday evening (local time) – swimming in the Hudson River. Pugh started at the source of the river in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York and now swims the approximately 500 kilometers to the mouth of Manhattan in the Atlantic Ocean.
