The wide choice of new car brands has made the public and automotive enthusiasts more flexible in making choices. Interestingly, the survey states that one in four British people consider a car brand from China for their new car.
The survey was conducted by a car comparison website and British media, Carwow. From their research, 29% of British people consider Chinese cars and the remaining 71% do not.
“Carwow found that 71% of people surveyed said they would not consider Chinese cars. On the other hand, two out of three drivers (67%) signaled their openness to switching brands in the future,” wrote Carwow.
More narrowly, Carwow found that 30% of British people surveyed claimed that the reason they considered Chinese cars was because of their good value for money, aka value for money.
In addition, another 19% explained that Chinese cars were more competitive in price and another 10% claimed Chinese cars had better and more technology.
On the other hand, the reasons British people surveyed did not consider Chinese cars were 37% due to political reasons, 36% due to the build quality, and another 28% due to lack of familiarity with brands from China.
James Hind as the co-founder and CEO of Carwow commented on the survey they conducted. According to him, now the public’s perception of car brands from China has shifted.
“However, Chinese car manufacturers looking to launch in the UK also have a duty to win over new car buyers. They are battling a lack of brand awareness and want to overturn the current public perception of build quality,” said Hind.
“But, while build quality may have been an issue in the past, it is now very high quality, as is design and safety. Chinese cars have a modern, sleek styling, and European designers are being hounded by Chinese manufacturers to ensure new models have high appeal. Meanwhile Therefore, Chinese cars get the highest safety rating in Europe, beating cars from more established brands,” said Hind.
The CEO of Carwow even claims that the Chinese car manufacturer is currently focusing on electric cars, making market competition more attractive and providing a good choice for the British public.
“The majority of people told us they were holding off on buying an EV because of the high cost of purchase. But given the competitive prices offered by Chinese manufacturers, this could all change,” Hind continued.
Interestingly, the global public’s interest in Chinese cars does not only occur in England. Carwow also conducted research in Germany and Spain, the results were greater than the UK.
“As a comparison, research conducted by Carwow across European markets found that there was a similar number of German drivers (30%) and a larger number of Spanish drivers (43%) considering car brands from China,” wrote Carwow.
