British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace resigned from his post Thursday, ahead of an expected cabinet reshuffle from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Wallace’s letter of resignation read:
Dear Prime Minister, Last month marked my fourth year as Minister of State for Defence. It has been my honor to serve you and your predecessors in the mission of protecting this great country and keeping its citizens safe. The Minister and the Ministry of Defense have been able to contribute to the government’s response to a range of threats and incidents. From WannaCry, the terrorist attacks of 2017, and the poisonings in Salisbury, Afghanistan, Sudan, and Ukraine, it has been an honor to serve alongside the men and women of our armed forces and intelligence services who sacrifice so much for our security.
Wallace served as Minister of Defense under three prime ministers, and played a prominent role on behalf of the United Kingdom in the Ukraine war.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to carry out a cabinet reshuffle in September.
The British “Sky News” network reported that British Energy Minister Grand Shapps will succeed Ben Wallace as Minister of Defense.
