British Couple Dies from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in Egyptian Hotel: Coroner’s Ruling

(CNN) A British coroner has ruled that the cause of death for a British couple who died at a luxury resort in Egypt in 2018 was carbon monoxide poisoning caused by inhaling a bedbug insecticide used in the next room. I expressed my opinion.

According to the British PA news agency, in August 2018, John Cooper (69) and Susan (63) were staying at a hotel in the Red Sea resort town of Hurghada when they were exposed to the insecticide Lambda in the next room. Fumigation treatment was carried out using fumigation.

In some countries, lambda is diluted with a substance called “dichloromethane.” When this substance is taken into the human body, it causes the metabolic production and absorption of carbon monoxide.

The door connecting the fumigated room to the couple’s room was sealed with masking tape, the PA news agency said.

The couple returned to their room in the evening, but their daughter found them in serious condition the next day. John was pronounced dead inside the room, and Susan died a few hours later at the hospital.

According to the PA news agency, the senior coroner for Lancashire, UK, ruled that the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning due to inhalation of gases produced by spraying insecticides containing dichloromethane.

“To this day, the family is struggling to understand what happened,” their daughter Kelly Ormerod, who was holidaying with the couple at the time, said in a statement after the inquest. I should not have allowed that to happen.”
