In 2021, British Charles Withers headed seafood restaurant C Salt Wine Bar and Grille in the American state of Massachusetts, where he lived. Everything seemed to be going well for him: he was married to Ashley McGuire and became famous overnight when he appeared in an episode of the reality TV show Chopped on The Food Network in 2022. A little later it turned out that Ashley was pregnant with their second child.
But suddenly Withers ran away unannounced. “Last year, when I was pregnant with our youngest baby, he decided that being a husband and father was no longer the lifestyle he wanted and he pretended to disappear without a trace. Meanwhile, he hasn’t seen one of his children in over a year and has never even met his second child. He has moved to another state and has a new phone number,” McGuire posted on social media.
The London-born chef, who now called himself Charlie and registered on various dating apps, seemed to be living an undisturbed single life in the state of Texas, reports The Sun. Meanwhile, his pregnant wife sat at home, not knowing where her husband was.
While Withers thought he was living an undisturbed life, his wife decided not to leave it at that. She then posted a Facebook post in which she called on people to look out for him. She wrote, in part: “This is my husband, Charles Withers. He likes to be the center of attention, but I’m not sure how much he’ll like this.” She made the call in the meaningful and popular Facebook group ‘Are we dating the same guy’. Disappeared
According to the New York Post, McGuire described her husband as quintessentially English and charming. She added that her husband is probably just working as a chef somewhere and isn’t mentioning that he also has a wife and children in Massachusetts. In any case, it was a reason for her to break up with him. “But it is difficult to divorce someone who is trying to no longer exist,” she says in The Sun. “That’s why I’m trying to track him down this way so he can sign the divorce papers.”
Datingapp
And the call had an effect: in no time her post went viral and McGuire was flooded with responses from people who had seen him, especially in Texas. Many women said they were matched with him on the dating app Bumble and that his name was Charlie instead of Charles. The news was even viewed more than five million times on Tiktok. Many women also showed their support for Ashley McGuire because they recognized what the chef had done to her. While many angry women wanted the chef to get his comeuppance, McGuire told the Daily Mail that she appreciates all the support but doesn’t want any threats or hate to come his way. “I want the situation to be resolved so that the children and I can start a new life.”
It is not known whether chef Charles Withers has responded to his (ex-)wife’s call.
