SANAA: The British cargo ship Rubymar sank in the Red Sea after being seriously damaged by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. This was confirmed by the Yemeni government. The British-registered ship was attacked by Houthis on February 18, 35 nautical miles off Yemen’s Al Mokha port in the Red Sea. After the ship carrying the flag of the Central American country of Belize was seriously damaged, the crew abandoned the ship and escaped.
The ship was carrying fertilizer and raw materials. This is the first time the ship has been sunk in an attack by the Houthis. UK Maritime Trade Operations had earlier confirmed that the ship Rubymar, which was damaged by the missile attack, was anchored in the Red Sea and that all crew had safely exited. They requested that ships passing through the Red Sea take precautions and report suspicious situations.
The Houthi spokesman said the ship was about to sink and that the crew had made sure they got out safely.
