From the 10th to the 20th, the Army conducted joint training with a company of the British Army at the Army Scientific Combat Training Group (KCTC) located in Inje, Gangwon-do. This is the first time that the British military has dispatched company-level troops to this exercise.
According to the Army on the 20th, in this training, the Korean side formed a combat team of about 2,400 people, including the 6th Division’s Army Eagle Brigade Combat Team, 1 Mechanized Infantry Battalion of the 1st Armored Brigade, 5th Corps Special Assault Regiment, and the Special Operations Command. In addition, a company under the British Army’s ‘Scots Guards’ regiment was organized together and engaged in training.
In this training, the Army verified the wartime mission performance capabilities of the Eagle Eagle Brigade Combat Team through a two-way free-mobility engagement with the KCTC subordinate specialized anti-tank regiment. In addition, to increase the practicality of the training, about 270 pieces of combat equipment, including tanks, armored vehicles, self-propelled guns, attack and mobile helicopters, drones, and unmanned aerial vehicles, were deployed. The training method was also intensive, organizing attack and defense operations into ‘3 days without sleep’ each.
The British military named this training ‘Exercise Imjin Warrior’ to convey the spirit of protecting freedom of veterans during the Korean War.
During the Korean War, the British army dispatched approximately 5,6000 troops to the Korean Peninsula, the second largest number among the UN participating countries, and fought alongside the Korean army. In particular, in April 1951, the British 29th Brigade fought a fierce battle against three Chinese divisions in the area of Seolma-ri, Jeokseong-myeon, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, near the Imjin River, and achieved the result of stopping the invasion of Seoul.
In order to conduct smooth joint training, the Korean and British armies spent a week together scouting the terrain and mastering scientific equipment operation techniques and assimilation. In actual training, performance was improved through data analysis and criticism using scientific training systems such as the Korean military’s MILES (Multiple Integrated Laser Training System) equipment.

British Army Company Commander (Major) Matthew Tisdale, who participated in this training, said, “It was a great honor to experience the Korean Army’s scientific training system and train together.” He added, “I hope that the relationship between the two countries will become stronger through continued mutual exchange.” He said.
Company Commander Shin Hyeong-deok of the 6th Division’s subordinate unit also said, “Experiencing various unexpected situations in extreme environments, I realized the importance of comradeship and peacetime education and training.” He added, “I will devote myself to training and training to have a strong combat power that can fight and win in any operational environment.” said.
Meanwhile, the Army plans to continue to expand the number of participating countries and scale of KCTC training, including the US and British forces, as well as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Australian forces.
