Launch Stuff.co.nz, Saturday (2/2/2024), the airline worker committed fraud in immigration checks. From his actions, he allegedly earned up to 3 million pounds sterling or around Rp. 59.52 billion.

He carried out this action at the check-in desk at London Heathrow Airport, England. The suspect, whose name was not revealed, is still young, 24 years old and works at Terminal 5.

The man reportedly charged 25 thousand pounds sterling or around Rp. 496 million to every passenger who flew with British Airways without the correct visa documents.

Now, he is still in pursuit and allegedly fled to India.

According to The Telegraph, he is believed to have convinced his mostly Indian clients to fly to the UK on temporary visas. That was before he allowed them to travel elsewhere again.

Other clients are reportedly UK-based asylum applicants who fear being returned to their home countries.

Responding to the case, British police worked with Indian authorities to track down the man. The man fled with his colleague who works in the delivery service sector after being arrested and released on bail.

Canadian authorities are said to have become suspicious after a number of passengers arriving on British Airways flights to Toronto and Vancouver claimed asylum.

According to The Sun, in fact the fraud has been going on for about five years. The perpetrator exploited a loophole because he knew that immigration checks were no longer carried out by officers, but were handed over to airline staff.

“By entering incorrect data and claiming that eTA (electronic travel authorization) documents had been secured, he took people to countries he did not actually have permission to enter,” according to the anonymous source.

Upon arrival, passengers would shred their documents and claim asylum.

The source described the scheme as a clever move, and added that no one fully knows what happened.

The Interior Ministry said that an investigation was underway and did not want to comment before its conclusions were out. Meanwhile, a British Airways spokesperson told The Telegraph that the airline was assisting authorities with their investigation.
