British Airways will cancel 10,300 flights

Before the covid-19 pandemic, British Airways operated around 850 flights a day. It reduced its flight schedule for the summer season by 13 percent. The cuts announced today only apply to short-haul flights from the beginning of August to the end of October.

The company said it was “protecting holiday flights as much as possible” and that the canceled flights were on routes where planes are less full. The company will contact customers from canceled flights and provide them with compensation – either a flight with another company or a full refund.

British Airways has cut around 10,000 jobs during the pandemic, AFP recalled. Like other airlines, it is failing to hire employees back. In addition, employees of these airlines at Heathrow Airport are threatening to strike because their wages have still not reached pre-pandemic levels.

Airports also have similar problems with recruiting employees. At the same time, the interest in traveling is high after the relaxation of the measures, and the airlines came out to meet people with a large offer of flights. But now they often have to interrupt.

For example, there is complete confusion at German airports when it comes to baggage handling. People are warned to arrive at the airport many hours in advance even for flights within the EU, and even then it is not certain that they will be checked in on time.
