British actress Shirley Anne Field, who rose to fame with the 1960 film ‘The Entertainer’ alongside Laurence Olivier, died on Sunday at the age of 87, her family reported this Monday.
The film and theater star died “peacefully, accompanied by her family and friends,” they say in a statement.
“Shirley Anne will be deeply missed and remembered for her unbreakable spirit and incredible legacy, spanning more than five decades on stage and screen,” the note adds.
Born on June 27, 1936 in Forest Gate, on the outskirts of London, the model was also a prominent figure especially during the British New Wave movement, which between 1959 and 1963 produced films inspired by the French ‘Nouvelle Vague’.
Field also participated in ‘Saturday Night and Sunday Morning’, alongside Albert Finney, and in ‘Alfie’ (1966) with Michael Caine. EFE
