London (AFP) – British actor Murray Melvin, who starred in the film adaptation of “The Phantom of the Opera” and Stanley Kubrick’s “Barry Lindon,” died on Friday at the age of 90, one of his relatives announced.
“It is with great sadness that I must announce the death of Murray Melvin,” director and filmmaker Kerry Kyriacos Michael wrote on Twitter on Saturday.
According to him, the actor suffered a fall in December “from which he never fully recovered.”
He died Friday at St Thomas’ Hospital in London.
Melvin was a “wonderful villain” as Bilis Manger on the series “Torchwwod,” producer Russel Davies wrote on Instagram.
In 1962 he received the Male Performance Award at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in “A Taste of Honey” by British director Tony Richardson.
