“China is developing the world’s largest surface and subsurface fleet. Our competitors continue to challenge us in the gray zone between war and peace,” he said, speaking at the Atlantic Forum, as reported by Reuters on Wednesday (21/10/2020).

“In the area of constant competition, global Britain has no choice but to step in. The world does not stop for our review, our enemy will not stop (in) the absence of our strategy and British defense can never be stopped in the face of financial uncertainty,” he said.
Earlier, the Secretary of Defense of the United States (US), Mark Esper said, China and Russia continue to try to make inroads in the US military leadership, including its broad international alliance.
Esper said the US alliance network was an eternal force that rivals and foes could not match. He noted that while Moscow and Beijing may have fewer than 10 allies combined, the US position cannot be taken for granted.

“China and Russia are rapidly modernizing their armed forces and using their growing power to ignore international law, violate the sovereignty of small states and shift the balance of power in their favor,” he continued.
