LONDON English and his allies are highly unlikely to send troops to defend Ukraine if Russia invaded the country. This was revealed by the British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace.

“We shouldn’t lie to people,” Wallace told Spectator magazine. “Ukrainian people are aware of that,” he added BBC, Saturday (19/12/2021).

In an interview with Spectator, Wallace said Ukraine is not a member of NATO, so it is highly unlikely that anyone would send troops to Ukraine to challenge Russia.

“That is why we are doing our best diplomatically to tell Putin not to do this,” he said, adding that tough economic sanctions were the most likely form of deterrence.

Wallace has previously said that Britain stands shoulder to shoulder with the Ukrainian people and remains determined to support them.

Earlier this week, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned Putin of the significant consequences of any destabilizing action in the region.

Russia has moved thousands of troops near Ukraine’s eastern border, prompting Western powers to urge President Vladimir Putin to reduce tensions.

Moscow has denied plans to attack Ukraine and has requested urgent talks with the United States.
