British Prime Minister Boris Johnson met with Ukrainian President Zelensky in Kiev on Saturday.
This visit had not been announced by London before. Johnson promised to supply Ukraine with armored personnel carriers and anti-ship missiles, praising the Ukrainian army for “21. the greatest fighting feat of the 20th century ”.
“The determined leadership of President Zelensky and the incredible heroism and courage of the Ukrainian people [Krievijas prezidenta Vladimira] Putin’s terrible goals have been thwarted, “Downing Street quoted Johnson as saying after meeting with Zelensky.
“Johnson is committed to providing additional military assistance – 120 armored personnel carriers and new anti-ship missile systems to support Ukraine in this crucial phase as Russia’s illegal attack continues,” the British government said in a statement.
Britain already announced on Friday the launch of additional Starstreak anti-aircraft missiles and another 800 anti-tank missiles, as well as so-called drone kamikazes for precise strikes. Johnson also pledged an additional $ 500 million through a World Bank fundraiser for Ukraine.
According to military experts, anti-ship missile systems are very important to prevent Russian warships from landing in Ukrainian ports. “Ukraine has done the incredible thing and pushed Russian forces out of the gates of Kiev with the greatest fighting feat of the 21st century,” Johnson said.
“I have made it clear today that the United Kingdom is unequivocally with them in this ongoing struggle, and we have been there for a long time,” he said.
