Britain intends to lift covid restrictions

Johnson announces the abolition of masks and major covid bans in England

The only reason the authorities can afford to consider easing restrictions is the effectiveness of the vaccination campaign, Johnson said.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the next phase of easing COVID restrictions in England. On Monday, July 5, reports BBC.

In particular, the head of the British government noted that from July 19, all enterprises in the country should resume work, restrictions on gatherings of people will be lifted, and the obligation to wear masks will be canceled.

“In the current circumstances, we must make careful and balanced decisions,” Johnson said at a news conference announcing the government’s plans to lift anti-coronavirus restrictions.

Johnson noted that instead of being obliged to wear masks in public places, the government will invite the British to “show personal responsibility and make their own choices.”

“A guide will be issued for people with recommendations on when to wear them, especially when the number of cases grows, and when it comes to meeting people with whom you usually do not meet, for example, in public places,” he said.

He also stressed that the final decision to lift the covid restrictions will be made by the authorities on July 12.

The prime minister explained that the only reason the authorities can afford to consider easing restrictions is the effectiveness of the vaccination campaign.

“If we can’t reopen all the properties over the next few weeks, during which summer and school holidays help us, we should ask ourselves, ‘When else can we reopen?’ – explained Johnson.

If the situation is favorable, the following reliefs are expected in Britain:

  • The wearing of masks will become optional.

  • Maintaining a social distance of 1 m will become optional.

  • The restriction on the number of participants in meetings and meetings, both indoors and outdoors, will be lifted.

  • All establishments will be able to open, including nightclubs.

  • The rules for serving tables in restaurants and cafes will be canceled.

  • The restrictions on the number of visitors to nursing homes will be lifted.

  • The restrictions on the capacity of theaters, concert venues and sports events will be canceled.

At the same time, Johnson stressed that “there is still a long way to the end of the pandemic.”

“The pandemic is not over yet. And it definitely will not end by July 19,” the prime minister said, noting that the number of infections is still growing. “We could face 50,000 infections by July 19,” he added.

The government is on track to meet its vaccination goals, and COVID-19 vaccines are showing effectiveness, he said. By July 19, every British adult will have a chance to get at least one shot and two-thirds to receive two doses of the vaccine. That is why London considers it expedient to lift the restrictions.

Formerly Queen of Great Britain Elizabeth II awarded the Cross to George The country’s National Health Service (NHS).

Recall that the UK announced the beginning of mass vaccination against COVID-19 for everyone over 18 years old. The first dose of vaccine in Britain has already been received by 80% of the adult population.
