Double victory for Labor candidates over Rishi Sunak’s Conservative counterparts in Thursday’s UK by-election.
In Wellingborough in central England, Labour’s Jen Kitchen beat Peter Brown, taking 45.8% of the vote. Meanwhile in Kingswood, Labour’s Damien Egan won Chris Skidmore’s seat with 44.9%.
The two new successes of Labor in the by-elections come to certify their rise in the polls, but also the image of… disintegration presented by the Conservatives. The latest opinion polls show that Keir Starmer’s party is a strong favorite for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The Labor leader welcomed yesterday’s results, describing them as “amazing”. “They show that the citizens want change and are ready to show their trust in our party. The Tories have failed. Recessions prove it. We’re seeing a lot of former Conservative voters change their minds.”
Conservative Party deputy leader James Daly wanted to poke fun at the impression. He said that “despite the disappointing result”, he noted that “there is no evidence that Conservative voters are turning to Labour”.
