Britain demanded a copy of the Panama Papers, France threatened legal action – 2024-08-10 15:04:06

/ world today news/ The authorities of the United Kingdom have requested a copy of the so-called “Panama Papers” with data on offshore accounts of a number of representatives of the world’s political and business elite.

The Government of the Island requested the documentation in order to study it and take appropriate measures in the fight against tax evasion.

According to British media, among the persons included in the documents is the father of British Prime Minister David Cameron – Ian Cameron.

On Sunday, the Washington-based International Consortium for Investigative Journalism released 11.5 million documents detailing the offshore accounts of a number of current and former leaders. The publications are based on leaked information of the Panamanian company “Mossac Fonseca”, which provides legal assistance in the registration of companies in offshore areas.

The leaked documents contain information and material on former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Syrian President Bashar Assad, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and many others.

French President Francois Hollande assured that the publications would be followed by legal proceedings in France.

“All the data that is exported gives grounds for an investigation by the tax authorities and will lead to legal proceedings,” assured the French president. /TASS
