A 10-year-old girl has died after being attacked by the family dog at her home in Yorkshire, local police have confirmed. The incident took place in the Malton area on Friday.
Despite the superhuman efforts of the rescuers and a passerby who rushed to help, the minor breathed her last after suffering serious injuries.
According to the police announcement, the dog was removed by a family member after the attack, and was later taken to a kennel, where it remains for now.
A police spokesman said their thoughts are with the girl’s family and friends at this difficult time, adding that authorities are providing psychological support to the family while investigations continue.
Police asked the public to refrain from speculating about the incident, out of respect for the family’s need for privacy and grieving.
