Britain becomes first country to approve COVID-19 drug

Molnupiravir is the first COVID drug in pills

Molnupiravir tablets will be able to be taken by patients with coronavirus undergoing treatment at home.

In the UK, the drug regulator is the first to approve the first pills for the treatment of COVID-19, Merck Molnupiravir. On Thursday, November 4, reports BBC.

“Today is a historic day for our country, as the UK became the first country in the world to approve an antiviral drug for COVID-19 that can be taken at home,” said UK Health Minister Sajid Javid.

He noted that treatment is “a game changer” for patients with weakened immune systems.

The pills will be given twice a day to patients who have recently been diagnosed with the disease.

It was previously reported that during the third stage of clinical trials, only 7.3% patients taking Molnupiravir, needed hospitalization. None of them died.

It was also reported that Molnupiravir can be a significant help in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
